I was recommended this book by a successful entrepreneurial podcaster, who said the book Winning Through Intimidation was a book that influenced him a lot and he recommended it even though it was written in the 1970's. The most valuable lesson in it, he said, was that you should not wait form people to promote you or to give you a deal -- you have to take it. I read the book and this was still the most valuable lesson. I found the style of the book kind of hard to read; the author has a big personality and is very intense about his way of doing things. I did not love it, but maybe because it was focused on real estate business and I did not how to translate to my business.

Outstanding book. Best book on negotiating (together with Secrets of Power Negotiation)
A must for fledgling or experienced sales people. It's also good prep for any self-improvement. Being intimidating doesn't really figure into this book as much as knowing yourself, being prepared in business AND MOST IMPORTANT The chapter on personality types is the most informative aspect of this fine book.
I can't wait to read his other books!! He lays out a very simple yet practical way to identify people who will screw you over in getting YOUR money after you've earned it. It's mind. Losing to see how he went used the Leap Frog Method to bounce himself to almost one million dollars in commissions in just two years.
By that I mean the book, not Mr. Ringer.

I first read this when I came out years ago and I thought I was getting rusty at a lot of things I could use a little brush up, a little refresher course.

I think that given the fact that things have swung back to where big business is in control and we are facing people who would tend to intimidate us more and more this book is an excellent read.

I loaned a copy of my yellow-paged paperback to someone and never got it back - so I just bought a version. The stuff in this book never goes out of style. I still think about Ringer's "reality principle" and "maintaining a positive attitude by assumption of a negative result" on a regular basis - and let's not forget the "ice ball theory." This book is filled with straightforward wisdom that can not only be applied to success in business but to success in life. It's also entertaining and a fun read.
If you want to get ahead in life, this is a must read. Robert teaches you how to "leapfrog" to the top, instead of "working your way to the top", which btw is a BS method invented by the people AT the top, to motivate the people on the BOTTOM to work harder or surrender the profits THEY are scooping up.

If you want to get paid what you are really worth, this is a MUST read! Robert explains his lessons in business, which for him was in real estate, but the principles are true and applicable to anyone serious about their own success, especially if you work as a consultant.

Basically Robert talks about 3 different types of business people, who in one way or another tries to screw you over when it is time to pay you. He shows what tools and techniques to use, so you can get paid "impossible amounts" and don't get screwed out of your well deserved money by these three types.
Enjoyed the book thoroughly. It's one of those books that you can't put down because if you've done sales you will immediately understand that real life circumstances happen and you cannot predict. Motivational books really are short lived emotional bursts that cannot be relied on to maintain consistent sales.

This book offers counterintuitive "Frameworks" to sustain you thru negative outcomes or circumstances when you are confronted by them.

A Framework is something you know up front about how you should confront a job and what to do about it.
If you are in sales most orgs tell you it's a numbers game and try to close every sale and stay upbeat. But most people end up quitting.

What if you had a framework instead that said something about the reality of what you are doing like
You most likely aren't going to make a sale (reality), do everything possible to make the sale, be prepared as you can be, etc, learn from the mistakes you make etc, but just know that in the end that there are innumerable things that can come up that will make the sale not happen; "know this ahead of time, and maintain a positive attitude despite this".

Many people are put off by the book's title. Whenever I was asked "What are you reading?" I put the book up in the air just to watch People's responses. And of course you know what the immediate response is.

Intimidation is a part of life. And in sales the person who is intimidated is toast. If you are a sales person and you walk into a doctor's or lawyer's ritzy office and made to wait for 30 minutes on their leather sofas and look at all of their trophies "You don't know it... but you are toast...you are the result of being intimidated even before you've begun your sales pitch; no matter how good your product is, who you are, on and on. This the stuff that sales techniques don't even talk about.

I would recommend another book called "Pitch Anything" by Oren Claff
