wasted $1 I knew more about Ruffian than him. its just a short essay!
The story of Ruffian is one of the best and saddest in the story of thoroughbred raising. Iy is great to admire Ruffian's physical beauty and her determination to live to the fullest of her DNA and ancestry. Reviewer, her grandsire was a son of Man of War and a brother to War Admiral (both triple crown winners and most spectacular horses that lived in the 20th Century. Unfortunately, Ruffian's was made to run in a final, fatal race, when she wasn't ready. Furthermore, Ruffian suffered from "Soft Bone Disease" (a similar form of osteoporosis in horses) which had not yet been detected. Both, her sire (Reviewer) and her dam (Shenanigans) had both broken forefront legs before they were both put down; a farther relative, Native Dancer was found to have been the carrier of Soft Bone Disease, which he passed on to his progeny, and therefore, if not expected, it certainly should not have been a great surprise to see Ruffian breakdown in her match race with Kentucky Derby winner, Foolish Pleasure, her first time running against a colt. Ruffian is a great and heartwrenching story of a most beautiful horse and the fateful end she came to. Nevertheless, a great story to read for those enthusiasts of horse racing and beautiful thoroughbred horses. I read the book twice and also watched the movie made about Ruffian, and, enjoyed them, although I could not help crying and mourning the loss of such a great and beautiful animal.
